I was asked a month ago to participate in a deacon ordination service of a sister church. Pastor J.D. Harrison has been shepherding Ford City Baptist Church and is a dear friend of mine. It was the first new deacon they had ordained in several years. Going back to Ford City brought back many memories of visiting that sweet church as a young boy. It was truly an honor to celebrate with them as they ordained a new deacon.
The Colbert Lauderdale Baptist Association is made up of 74 churches. First Baptist Church is just 1 of 74. We partner with other churches, like Ford City Baptist Church, to carry out the Great Commission in the two counties. Our Associational Mission Strategist is Dr. Timmy Ray. He grew up at FBC with his family and now God has placed him as a missionary for the CLBA. He engages with our local churches to assist and encourage them in their mission to reach their area.
Over the years, 74 churches have been planted in our association. FBC Florence has helped in planting several of these churches in years past in some form or fashion. As the population grew over the years there was a need for new church plants and God blessed them. Even in 2025 there is a great resurgence of church planting in our own state to reach people more effectively. I am also very proud of FBC for helping to sponsor a Church plant in Mobile. The point is for the gospel to continue to grow we must continue to plant churches, work together with existing churches and partner with them in carrying out the Good News in our own corner of the state.
I will be the first to admit that I haven’t been to every single church in our association. I am not as familiar with Little Bear Creek Baptist Church, Corum Chapel Baptist Church or Asphalt Rock Baptist Church. But I am so thankful for each one of these churches. Many of them located in rural areas but they are just as important as the largest churches in our CLBA. Even recently one of our pastors of a very small church reported that they were baptizing two sisters. Faithful was this small church to this rural area. Their faithfulness led to an opportunity to see two young girls get saved. That is one example of why I am so thankful for all 74 churches in our CLBA.
As of 2024, Southern Baptist had 46,876 churches in the USA. The goal of SBC is to have 50,000 churches by the end of 2025 in our country. Would you pray for these churches to come to fruition this year? Would you join me in praying for our 74 churches in the CLBA on a regular basis? Five Rivers Church of Mobile is the church we are helping sponsor and would you join me in praying for them? We are in cooperation with each of these church bodies and it is to advance the Kingdom of God throughout the world. Today, be thankful for our sister churches!
