Harrison Fountain on the UNA Campus

Students of all ages are important to the members of First Baptist Church.  But our nearness to the University of North Alabama campus gives us an extra special relationship with UNA students.

We invite all UNA students to worship with us at First Baptist Church in Florence.  We're located at the corner of Wood Avenue and Tombigbee Street, just a few blocks southeast of the UNA campus.

Call FBC at  (256) 764-4921 or e-mail our Associate Pastor and college minister Kevin Johnson for more information..

Opportunities for College Students

First Baptist provides several worship, study, and ministry opportunities for college students.  And in turn, FBC benefits greatly from having college students in its membership.

Typical opportunities for college students at FBC include the following:

  • "Watchcare" membership under which you retain membership in your home church and First Baptist becomes your "church away from home"
  • Worship services at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm every Sunday
  • College Sunday School at 9:15 am during UNA's summer term.
[College Sunday School and free lunch following the morning worship service each Sunday.  (During the fall and spring terms at UNA)]
  • 737 Ministries (College Bible Study) at 7:37 pm every Wednesday night while UNA is in session
  • Choirs and instrumental ensemble to join
  • Opportunity to work with children, youth, and adult church activities
  • College retreats and mission trips
  • Warm and friendly welcome from other members of First Baptist, Florence.

A Message to UNA Students from Associate Pastor Kevin Johnson

TO ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS

A WORD FROM KEVIN:

COLLEGE LIFE!  One of the great times in a young person’s journey is when they attend college.  I know of no better college than THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA!  As a graduate of UNA, I have watched this beautiful campus grow and bloom into one of the best universities in the southeast.  It has a rich tradition in academics, a reputation for great athletics and an environment of home that is second to none!  You will love it here at UNA.

I want you to know that not only is UNA special to this great city of Florence, Alabama, but so is FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of FLORENCE. We are located just 3 to 4 blocks away from the campus.  FBC is a church with great tradition as well and has a great vision to impact young lives for Christ and reach our college campus!  Dr. Ric Camp just arrived as our Pastor and we are already seeing God move in a great way in our church.  Pastor Ric & First Baptist Church LOVE COLLEGE STUDENTS!  Our prayer is that FBC will have a great impact upon every UNA student!  Our Sunday morning worship is at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by College Sunday School & Lunch nearly every Sunday in the Fall & Spring!  On Wednesday Nights you will want to check out our 737 COLLEGE MINISTRY! We meet at 7:37 p.m. for a time of contemporary worship and college fellowship and a message to encourage you in your walk with the Lord!

First Baptist Church has become known as a church that loves college students.  Our church has fed the Pride of Dixie Band, grilled out for cheerleaders, hosted sorority meetings each week, provided watermelons for the Lions soccer team, and much more.  FBC is active in impacting the lives of the students of UNA.  Former students still contact me telling me how much FBC made a difference in their lives...maybe this year it will be you.  Hope you will come check us out. What College Students Are Saying About First Baptist Church of Florence

  • "FBC Florence and the 737 College Ministry have become home away from home for me.  It's beautiful family that has embraced me and loves me just as I am.  I have never been more thankful for a church!" - Heather Polk, Sophomore
  • "In a college student's life it is very important but very hard to stay strong spiritually.  I didn't know how life was going to hit me when I came to Florence to go to college but I wanted to keep my life on track and keep my relationship strong with God.  I came to FBC a couple of weeks into the semester and I knew I had found a home.  The people are wonderful and treat you like family.  The college ministry is amazing. I look forward to 737 every week because I know that I am going to get a blessing!" - Reggie Scott, Junior at UNA
  • "FBC college ministry means forming new friendships with other college students and building a better relationship with God."  Carly Rhodes - UNA soccer player
